After a successful first year, the Spanish Theater Workshop has returned. Drawing from the expertise of a community theater group, the Water People Theater, the workshop, which meets during Lab B in the Gordon Parks Auditorium, encourages students to practice their Spanish skills in a friendly environment through improv and theatrical skits. The workshop will culminate in the performance of a play on May 28.
The workshop was founded by teachers Suzanne Baum, Patricia Zavala, and Diego Zuñiga when they were seeking fun ways to bring the Spanish language and Hispanic culture to Lab.
Ms. Baum and Ms. Zavala have noticed that the students who participated in the workshop are much more confident speaking Spanish in class, moving from being reticent participants to discussion leaders.
Sophomores Santiago Bravo and Alexander Reyes participated in the workshop last year, and decided to return this year. They said that they particularly enjoyed how fun the workshop was, and how it built community.
