A new panel to discuss challenges to students’ wellbeing and mental health will be held in Gordon Parks Arts Hall Oct. 29 from 6:30-8 p.m. and hosted by the Parents’ Association with the Laboratory Schools.

The panel, titled “Promoting Wellness for Academic Success and a Fulfilling Life: Exploring Challenges Facing our Community,” includes Melina Hale, member of the University of Chicago admissions community and parent; Dr. Elizabeth Kieff, psychiatrist and parent; and Noah Rachlin, dean of teaching and learning at U-High.

“We want to sort of address this misconception about it being a tradeoff: that you can’t have sort of a healthy and well environment for kids and achieve, like, this high academic success,” Parents’ Association co-president Lauren Polite said.

All members of the Laboratory Schools community are encouraged to attend. The event will be moderated by members of the U-High Midway staff along with journalism teacher and Midway faculty adviser Logan Aimone.

Light refreshments will be served from 6-6:30 p.m.
