Gabriel Bump, a 2009 U-High alumnus, will discuss and sign his new book on Feb. 18 in C-116 during lunch.

The book, “Everywhere You Don’t Belong,” is about growing up as a black person on Chicago’s South Side. Set to be published Feb. 4, it has been named to several lists of top and most-anticipated books for 2020. Mr. Bump will also hold a reading and signing event at the Seminary Co-op Bookstore Feb. 17 at 6 p.m.

Artsfest adviser Brian Wildeman, who initially reached out to Mr. Bump, is teaming with the Black Students’ Association to sponsor the event.

“This particular book is so timely with all of the things that we had this year,” Mr. Wildeman said. “It seems like it could address some of these things from a former student’s point of view…and help with healing some of the tension with racism.”

The event includes pizza for attendees.
