Students and adults at the University of Chicago Laboratory Schools sheltered in place for approximately 40 minutes after an “off-campus armed incident,” according to an announcement from the university.

Early dismissal for students in kindergarten through third grade was approved by the University of Chicago Police Department after the incident was resolved.

Members of the Chicago Police Department had sought a suspect in the armed incident.

U-High events on campus for the rest of the day, such as athletics practices, were not affected.
