The varsity volleyball team defeated Woodlands Academy Oct. 5, winning the Independent School League championship for the first time since 2004.

The Maroons won the championship with an 8-0 record in the ISL this season after defeating every other school in the conference. They were led by captains Ariana Vazquez and Anathea Carrigan, seniors, and junior Charlotte Henderson.

At the game against Woodlands, the Maroons lost the first game 23-25, but won the next games 25-23 and 25-11, sealing the victory.

“It was our first conference game where we had lost the first set, so it was a test to see whether we could persevere and fight for the next two sets,” Ariana said. “When we accomplished this, it felt like a game worth winning.”
