The Chinese Fine Arts Society is hosting a Chinese New Year Celebration for the Year of the Tiger at Navy Pier Feb. 5 from 1-5 p.m., and Laboratory Schools students from the middle and high schools will be volunteering at the event.
The event has been taking place at Navy Pier for over a decade, though the event was on break last year because of the pandemic. Due to COVID-19 concerns, all attendees will be required to wear masks and everyone over five will need to show proof of vaccination.

The student volunteers will be working on the floor of the event and backstage.

“Because of the pandemic we were not able to find as many volunteers this year,” Julie Ma, president of the Chinese Fine Arts Society, said, “and the Lab community really stepped up.”
The celebration will feature a re-creation of a Chinese night market in the ballroom at Navy Pier and performances from a variety of Asian artists from around Chicago.

Correction: A prior version incorrectly stated this was a two year break, instead of a one year break. This correction was made Feb. 4 at 1:32 p.m.
