Oct. 17 and 24 are the final two days to get flu and COVID-19 vaccinations at Lab. Sponsored by Comer Health, these vaccines are available for students five years and up and their families. The Oct. 17 clinic will be from 3-6 p.m. at the historic campus, and the Oct. 24 clinic will be from 2-5:30 p.m. at Earl Shapiro Hall.

To book a vaccination time, call 773-834-8221 and ask to schedule a clinic appointment with Jennifer Burns from Health4Chicago. Vaccines will not be given without an appointment made in advance.

As Thanksgiving break is approaching, school nurse Mary Toledo-Treviño encourages students to get vaccinated three weeks prior to travel because of the simplicity and accessibility. She says she is honored to be able to offer these vaccines to the community to ensure that everybody stays healthy going into the holidays.

This is also an opportunity to make up for any missing adolescent vaccinations. The only necessary steps are to reach out to one of the nurses, such as Ms. Toledo-Treviño, and clarify which specific shots have been missed to receive those along with the Moderna vaccine.

According to Ms. Toledo-Treviño, side effects of the vaccine can be headaches, fevers and chills. Any student who has a fever of 100.4 degrees or above after being vaccinated will still be allowed to come to school and participate in activities.
