Administrator Zackary Livingston has been selected as Lab’s next middle school principal. Mr. Livingston will join Lab from Zion-Benton Township High School, where he has served as principal since 2021.

Administrator Zackary Livingston will be Lab’s next middle school principal. Mr. Livingston has been principal at Zion-Benton Township High School since 2021 and previously was assistant principal of teaching and learning for North Chicago Community High School for four years. He anticipates completing his doctorate in educational leadership at Concordia University Chicago in July.

Mr. Livingston will begin his role as Lab’s middle school principal this summer.

Laboratory Schools Director Tori Jueds wrote in an email to the community, “When he visited Lab, Zack impressed us with his deep appreciation for the middle school journey, his ability to build trusting and caring relationships, and his student-centered approach.”

Ms. Jueds added that a Lab teacher noticed Mr. Livingston’s  “great care for supporting teachers and building relationships within the community,” as well as his “strong understanding of Lab’s mission and values,” and another called him “magnetically approachable.”

Former principal Ryan Allen left at the end of the 2022-23 school year, and English teacher Joe Drogos has been serving as interim principal for the 2023-24 school year.
