Varsity debate members Austin Lok and Devdan Jeffrey finished with two wins and four losses after competing in six rounds in the virtual Marist Ivy Street Tournament Sept. 27-28. They did not advance to the elimination rounds held Sept. 29.
While Devdan said he isn’t fully satisfied with the results, the duo’s performance was reasonable given the limited circumstances.
“I unfortunately didn’t have a lot of time over the summer to prepare, so I was fairly unfamiliar with the topic,” Devdan said. “All things considered, it wasn’t a terrible result at all.”
Devdan said he appreciated working with Austin in this tournament.
“It was a lot of fun,” Devdan said. “Austin’s a very fun person, a very skilled debater, so it’s a lot of fun to debate with him.”
Devdan acknowledged how competitive the teams were and said he wants to use it as leverage for improvement.
“The teams we debated against were fairly tough, and I think we did decently,” Devdan said, “but there’s always room for improvement.”
