Six alumni who once competed as U-High athletes will be inducted into the Lab Athletics Hall of Fame as members of the Class of 2025 in a ceremony to be held May 3 as part of Alumni Weekend. Established in 2019, the Hall of Fame celebrates the legacy of excellence and sportsmanship that characterizes the Lab Schools. The following athletes are being recognized this year.
Jameel Alausa, 2017: Mr. Alausa was a standout varsity basketball player at U-High, leading his team to four consecutive ISL Championships and three IHSA Regional titles. A three-time All-Conference pick, he was named ISL Player of the Year as a senior and earned All-State honors from the IBCA in both his junior and senior years. He went on to play four years of college basketball at Yale University.
Chase Chavin, 1997: Mr. Chavin was a standout multi-sport athlete at Lab, excelling in tennis, basketball, soccer and cross country. Alongside his twin brother, Grant, he led the varsity tennis team to four ISL championships, going undefeated in conference doubles play and winning three ISL titles and two Sectionals. A three-year varsity basketball player, he helped secure an ISL title as a junior. He also started on the varsity soccer team as a senior — finishing top 10 in the conference for goals — and ran cross country his junior year. In his senior year, Chase Chavin earned IHSA Academic All-State Honors, becoming just the third Lab student to receive the award.
Grant Chavin, 1997: Mr. Chavin was a four-year varsity tennis standout at Lab, leading the team to four straight ISL championships. Teaming up with his twin brother, Chase, he went undefeated in conference doubles play, winning three ISL titles and two Sectional championships. A four-time ISL All-Conference honoree, Grant Chavin also earned the Lab Coaches Award for his leadership. He helped secure an ISL title in basketball as a junior, ran cross country his junior year, and started on the varsity soccer team as a senior. Grant Chavin went on to play one year of junior varsity basketball at Yale University.
Sarah Duncan, 1985: Ms. Duncan was a four-year varsity basketball standout at Lab, helping lead the team to multiple ISL titles and two 20-win seasons while scoring over 1,000 career points. She also played varsity volleyball as a junior, highlighting her athletic range. At Harvard, she played four years of collegiate basketball, contributing to two Ivy League championships and earning a reputation for elite scoring and shot-blocking. Ms. Duncan still holds multiple school records at Harvard.
Charles Moore, 1966: Mr. Moore was a three-sport captain at Lab, leading the cross-country, basketball, and tennis teams in 1965–66. A standout competitor, he earned All-City honors in basketball and went undefeated in tennis while guiding Lab to back-to-back PSL championships. His athletic excellence was recognized with the Monilaw Medal in 1966. In 1976, he was a finalist in the U.S. Open Racquets Championship, cementing his legacy in the sport.
Peter Muller, 1997: Mr. Muller was a standout distance runner at Lab, earning three All-State cross country honors and winning the state championship in 1996. That same year, he also claimed the state title in the 3,200-meter run. A dominant force in the Independent Schools League (ISL), he captured multiple league titles in cross country and in the 3,200, 1,600 and 800 meters. Peter went on to compete in cross country and track at Duke University for four years, continuing his impressive running career.
