The students who will lead the U-High Midway for the 2025-26 school year have been announced. Light Dohrn, Kabir Joshi and Sohana Schneider will be editors-in-chief, and Naomi Benton will be managing editor. New section editors include Declan Smith, news; Ari Novak, features; Orlie Weitzman, opinion; Lila Coyne, arts and entertainment; Abhay Chandran, city life; Lucy Shirrell, health and wellness; and Caroline Skelly, sports.
Light, who served as arts and entertainment editor this year, said she has learned a lot from her experience and will take it into being editor-in-chief.
“I learned a lot about how to showcase multiple perspectives in journalism,” Light said. “I think there’s a lot that happens in the world of arts and entertainment, so many movies, so many books, so many plays, so many student-run artistic projects, and as the arts and entertainment editor, you get really good at sort of balancing those and being able to choose which to highlight at any specific time.”
Sohana, who is currently an assistant editor, said she also believes it’s incredibly important to showcase a variety of opinions and perspectives.
“I think it’s really important to me to reflect the student voice in our paper, and so I really try and pursue that in diverse perspectives when I’m interviewing people but also in the way the stories are framed,” Sohana said.
Kabir, who has been opinion editor, also wants to increase different perspectives shown through more coverage on groups not as focused on before.
“As an editor-in-chief, I’m really hoping to further a lot of the coverage that we do about people around the school and focus on groups and communities that we haven’t covered as much as we should,” he said.
The editors-in-chief have similar main goals of increasing engagement with The Midway both inside and outside the Lab community.
Light said, “I just want to make sure that I’m able to help the Midway change people’s lives the way it’s changed mine.”
