After advancing to the IHSA 1A Super-Sectional Finals, the girls soccer team faced a narrow 1-0 loss against Timothy Christian High School on May 31, ending the season.
Co-captain Devyn Moubayed, a junior defender, said she is proud of how far the team came after a rocky start.
“This season it was much harder trying to find our feet,” Devyn said. “We lost a lot of key players last year, and it was harder at first for us to click. But now we’re really playing with confidence and trusting each other.”
Devyn added that one of the team’s most exciting moments came during the sectional semifinal on May 23 against Coal City High School, when they dominated with a 6–0 victory.
“We showed up with so much energy,” Devyn said. “We scored three goals in the first 10 minutes, which is something that I wasn’t expecting but something I knew we could do. We scored on almost every chance we had and took control of the game from the start, so that made me really happy.”
For sophomore Laurel Farmer, the season was one of personal growth, but also a way for her to grow closer with her teammates. The team’s first game against Regina Dominican High School particularly stood out for her.
“I was really nervous because I came on late,” she said. “It was a moment when I realized how much I loved the sport even though I hadn’t been playing it for a while.”
Although the season is over, Laurel is grateful for a good year.
“I’m definitely very sad that this season has ended,” Laurel said. “But it was really great to be on a team with these people, especially the seniors that I got to know through soccer and I wouldn’t have otherwise. It’s been incredible to be a part of this team.”
