Four students brought home individual awards from the Midwest Chinese Speech Contest at Walter Payton College Preparatory High School on May 31. Ninth grader Axel Lintz and junior Kai Gregorski received gold medals, sophomore Suna Choi Hortacsu received a silver medal and junior Cruise Lickerman received a bronze.
“I’m pretty happy with how I did,” Cruise said. “I think if I spent a bit more time preparing, I could have done better.”
Looking forward to next year, Cruise would love to participate in the competition again, but due to the shifting location each year, he is skeptical about being able to attend.
“It’s held in a different spot every year, so for the past few years it hasn’t been in Chicago, so Lab hasn’t sent anybody, but if it was in Chicago I would do it again. It was pretty fun,” Cruise said.
