Ninth graders elected new Student Council officers, with Kingston Zhao elected as class president, Hazel Hotz elected as vice president and Simon Ellis and Alistair Mackey-White serving as cultural union representatives. The elections were held on Oct. 3.
As the president this year, Kingston wants to organize fun events for his grade to bring everyone together
“I want to organize fun school events, specifically seasonal events, such as going to a pumpkin patch or a holiday movie night,” Kingston said.
Candidates gave speeches at an assembly on Sept. 30. In his speech, Kingston emphasized his knowledge of the Lab community that he obtained from being a Lab student for many years.
“I’ve been at Lab for quite a while, and I feel like I’ve gotten to know my grade really well, which will make me a good president,” Kingston said.
Voting occurred from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with a voting turnout of 89%. Prior to voting, each candidate released a written statement, which was posted on the Student Council website.
In her written statement, Hazel said, “This year has been eventful already. With homecoming, spirit week, and the fun assemblies. I hope that this school year will be filled with joy and energy.”
