All members of the Lab community are invited to attend the annual Día de los Muertos celebration hosted by the Latinos Unidos club on Oct. 30 from 3:30 to 5 p.m. in the Gordon Parks Arts Hall lobby. The event is open to all ages and will feature food, dancing and other traditional activities.
Participants are encouraged to bring a photo of a loved one who has died to contribute to the ofrenda, an altar created to honor and remember them. In past years, the ofrenda has served as a meaningful, collaborative display to the entire school community.
The celebration will include traditional crafts such as paper flower making, face painting and sugar skull decorating.
Camila Bravo, a senior and co-president of Latinos Unidos, said she hopes the event helps students feel seen.
“Día de los Muertos showcases such a vibrant culture that’s within our community,” she said. “I hope people see our affinity groups are not just a place for celebration but also a place to feel represented and see the diversity of Lab.”
This year, the celebration moves to Gordon Parks Arts Hall to accommodate more space for activities and attendees.
