After making it to IHSA Class 2A regional finals in what senior striker Ty Quiles called a “very strong” season, the boys soccer team faced a 3-1 loss on Oct. 24 against Bremen Community High School that ended the season. The team scored 11 wins, 7 losses and 1 tie, as well as several individual state awards.
In the first game of playoffs against Evergreen Community High School on Oct. 21, the Maroons won 5-0. They had a rocky start, but got into the groove once they shook off the pregame jitters, Ty said.
“Once we got into the swing of the game, we played really well,” Ty said. “That game we had five goals, and I scored two of them. It was a really strong way to start the playoffs.”
They had a harder time during the second game, eventually losing to Bremen and ending the season earlier than they wanted.
“We kept playing, we kept fighting, kept trying to score goals, but we just couldn’t seem to put one away,” Ty said. “It was a really hard loss.”
Ty is proud of his teammates and feels that despite the disappointment of not making it further in the playoffs, their teamwork was what defined the season.
“This year, we were very cohesive as a team, we were organized, and we wanted a lot out of our season,” Ty said. “I’m proud of the team, but I wish our efforts were reflected in the score.”
