The varsity Science Olympiad team placed fourth at a competition at Marquette University High School in Milwaukee on Nov. 15, while the junior varsity team placed sixth. This was both teams’ first competition this year.
Science Olympiad team captain Rachel Xiang, a senior, thinks that the first competition went relatively well.
“All things considered, [it] went well, and you know, even though some team members may feel a little bit disappointed, there’s a lot of places that they did really great in,” Rachel said. “This competition is somewhere where you can look for importance.”
Multiple individual events placed in the top five, which boosted the team’s overall ranking. Junior Gio Nicolai, a team assistant captain, thought the team performed better than anticipated.
“I was actually really pleasantly surprised with how we did once the full results came out,” Gio said. “Especially, I’m really proud of how the junior varsity did. A lot of people, for their first competition, they really, really excelled, and I was really proud of that.”
