Middle and high school students have a chance to choose a free dress or formal wear outfit through a Parents’ Association clothing swap Jan. 27-28 in Judd C116.
Donations will be collected Jan. 20-23 in boxes that will be placed in the high school and Judd lobbies. Students do not have to donate to participate.
On Jan. 27, the dress swap will be open to students only, and each student will be allowed to pick one outfit, either a dress or a shirt and pair of pants. Jan. 28 will be open to students, parents and faculty, and both days will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The goal of the drive is to give formal wear a second life as students quickly outgrow clothes that are often worn only once, Parents’ Association leader Farah Adhi said.
To encourage donations, one middle and high school advisory will each receive Crumbl cookies as an incentive to contribute.
“Every year, students are growing, and their style is changing, so there are so many opportunities for sharing and swapping and hand-me-downs in the Lab community,” Mrs. Adhi said.
Mrs. Adhi said she hopes the event encourages families to pass down formal wear and reduces the cost of buying outfits that may only be worn once.
“If this makes it just a little bit easier for a family to not have to spend that extra on an extra outfit, then I think that’s a benefit to everyone,” she said.
