To wrap up the season, U-High’s mock trial team competed at the Illinois State Bar Association state tournament held in Springfield, March 13-15, where the team was not one of the three that advanced to the national competition.
Out of the 10 students who attended, three received awards. Senior Yusuf Arain and junior Lila Coyne received outstanding attorney, and junior Priya Yamada received outstanding witness.
“We did great. This was the best our team has ever performed in the short tenure of the travel team,” Yusuf said. “But we ended up coming away with three individual awards, which we’re really proud of.”
Yusuf enjoyed the team bonding elements that came along with the trip.
“I would say that I’m incredibly proud of everyone that competed at the state tournament,” Yusuf said, “and it was an incredibly memorable way to end my senior year on the team.”
