The Robotics Team finished its season by placing fifth at the Midwest Regional competition March 27-29. The team also competed in the Central Illinois Regional competition on March 18-21, where it placed 18th in the seeding round.
This season was the team’s second without industry mentors, professionals who helped the team design and build the robot, and followed a season where the team placed poorly.
Senior James Hubbard, one of the team coordinators — the team’s alternative to traditional captains — is incredibly proud of the team’s accomplishments despite that circumstance.
“We had a really rough season last year, I might as well explain. Until last year, we had technical mentors, like, industry professionals, like all the big FRC teams do,” James said, referring to FIRST Robotics Competition. “Coming off of going from, you know, seeded last place to at both our events to captain an alliance was just a massive success.”
Overall, James is very happy with the team’s performance, and hopes that next year’s performance will be even stronger.
“The whole team was so dedicated. We had people on Discord calls doing CAD work at 3 a.m. on some days,” James said. “It’s great to be back in that position, and I have a lot of confidence that the next season will go just as well.”
