U-High’s Model UN, debate, mock trial and STEM Racing teams gathered after school on April 24 to participate in an academic team trivia competition. The Model UN team won with seven points, followed by mock trial with six points, and debate and STEM Racing with two points each. Eleven students participated for the MUN team, while five students participated for the other three teams.
Senior Yusuf Arain, a mock trial captain, organized the event, and science teacher Kevin Nihill helped write the questions. According to Yusuf, the trivia showdown turned out to be even better than he had imagined.
“The teams that participated brought their full effort, making for a great experience where everyone brought their competitive spirit,” he said.
Yusuf hopes that academic team trivia becomes a tradition in the upcoming years.
“My vision is that the winner from this year’s competition will host the next time,” he said, “so I’d love to see MUN carry it on as a tradition next year.”
Junior Austen Wu appreciated the opportunity for Model UN to work with other academic teams.
“MUN has faced a lot of stigma in the past for being this really try-hard competitive club, so I thought that this trivia experience allowed us to not only to team bond with our own group, but we were also able to have some great connections with the other people and the other teams,” Austen said.
