Update, May 30, noon: Prom will be held at Ovation, 2324 W. Fulton St. An earlier version of this story incorrectly listed the location as Venue West.
There has been excitement surrounding prom throughout school, from prom committee events and fundraising to creative promposals in every corner of the halls.
On June 7, U-High’s prom will be hosted at Ovation from 6-10 p.m. This year’s theme is inspired by the classic novel “The Great Gatsby.”
Senior Nana Akoto is on the prom committee and didn’t want proms to become repetitive when picking the theme.
“The theme for prom was chosen at the beginning of the school year by looking at how other schools designed prom, because we didn’t want to repeat anything that has been done at Lab,” Nana said.
Throughout the night, the event will include special features and events, such as the sit-down dinner, which will have tables of 6-8 people this year.
“They’re going to see a photo booth — which we didn’t think we would get — we’re having dinner and dessert, the music selection should be really good, and when they see the decorations at the venue, it will be really nice and will set the mood,” Nana said.
Christian Martinez, a senior, is attending prom and is excited yet emotional.
“I’m looking forward to spending a night with my friends because it’s going to be one of the last times we’ll get to spend together before we graduate,” Christian said.
Nana hopes people remember prom as a night full of fun and joy due to the hard work and planning put into it.
Nana said, “Prom should be fun and it should be different from school because everyone is ready to graduate, and it should be a student experience.”
