The U-High Midway’s website is one of 38 national high school finalists for the National Scholastic Press Association Online Pacemaker Award. The award recognizes student publications for overall site excellence, general comprehensiveness, reach and the tangibility of its effect in the publication’s community.

U-High is one of two Illinois finalists.

This marks the fourth consecutive and sixth overall year since 2020 that the Midway has been a finalist for an Online Pacemaker.

Editor-in-Chief Light Dohrn attributed the accomplishment to the Midway staff’s hard work and dedication.

“I personally feel nothing but pride in our accomplishments and in the continued excellence of this team,” Light said. “I think that Lab is utterly singular in how much it values student journalism.”

Light also expressed her gratitude for the support of U-High’s journalism advisers, Logan Aimone for newspaper journalism, and Jayna Rumble for photojournalism and the U-Highlights yearbook.

“I think that we owe victories like this not only to the work of us, the students, but also in large part to Mr. Aimone and Ms. Rumble, who are just badass journalism advisers,” Light said.

Award winners will be announced April 18 at the National High School Journalism Convention in Minneapolis.
