U-High’s Ouroboros literary translation magazine will host its annual launch party on May 7, from 4-5 p.m. at the Seminary Co-op Bookstore. Sponsored by the Laboratory Schools English Department, the event will feature student readings and celebrate the release of the magazine’s seventh volume. 

Volume seven is the longest edition yet at 211 pages, and centers around the theme of dissent. It also includes more languages than ever, with translations from Ukrainian and Igbo, expanding the magazine’s global reach. Copies will be available for purchase at the event for $10, and will later be sold through the English department office. 

Ouroboros editor-in-chief Adam Tapper, a senior, emphasized the importance of translation in broadening perspectives. 

“Literature is a really vital form of human expression,” Adam said, “and we should not be limited to only the English language.”

He added that the event offers a change to engage with diverse voices. 

“This event is a really cool place where we get to share all types of literature from across the world,” he said, “which maybe will resonate with people or just show them a new tradition they didn’t know about.”
