What new ideas, projects or initiatives do you have?
“I would like to require co-curricular weeks to have at least one lab period free, for students to have at least one homework-free long weekend per semester, and for students to propose their own electives and potentially teach subjects they are passionate about. In addition, I would like to work to get Student Council more power and be more involved with faculty and administration by advocating for us to sit in on faculty meetings and frequently send documents that list student issues.”
What is your main goal and how do you plan realistically to achieve it?
“My main goal is to give the Student Council more power. I intend to start with Student Council sitting in faculty and Steering Committee meetings more often and being able to send a quarterly document to faculty, detailing issues that students have brought up. In giving the Student Council more power, I want to ensure that the issues we present are representative of the student body, which is why I want to create frequent meetings for Student Council members and the student body to discuss issues.”
What experiences, skills and other qualifications make you a good candidate for this position?
“I have been on the Student Council for four years since middle school, and I have been the grade president for every year of high school so far. I have led 16 grade events and have been a part of 11 all-school events. I know what needs to get done in terms of planning, and I have the knowledge of what has and hasn’t worked in the past. In my three years on the U-High Student Council, I have seen a wide range of all-school presidents, which have taught me how to lead the Student Council as a whole to be successful in producing quality events and changes to the school.”
What is a change in the school this year that you disagreed with or would like to see remedied?
“I do believe the phone policy is helpful in fostering community, but I would like to modify it to allow students to have their phones during free periods and lunch, outside of the cafeteria. It would especially be helpful now, considering Lab students are not allowed to stay at Booth.”
How will you communicate the concerns of students to the administration?
“First, I will create meetings with the student body to get more information on the concerns of the students and how to best approach these concerns. Then, I will set up meetings with the proper people to discuss the concerns and keep the student body updated as to how administration is responding.”
