What new ideas, projects or initiatives do you have?:
“First, I aim to create greater options for seating around the school. With Booth recently closing for U-High students, it has been difficult to find seating, especially during Lab B. Creating more seating options will be a priority if I am voted for 12th grade class president. Another one of my goals is to increase senior class spirit specifically. Encouraging attendance at UHigh athletic and theater events, as well as Student Council events will build class togetherness.”
What is your main goal and how do you plan realistically to achieve it?:
“My main goal is to make sure that our senior year is as great as it can possibly be. Obviously, there will be stressful moments, with college applications especially, but focusing on building a unit so that we can completely operate as one is what I strive to do. Specifically, I want to create designated ‘no work’ days, on dates that are especially busy with college deadlines. This would be done by working with the individual departments of the school, and creating a calendar outlining ‘no work’ days/weekends.”
What experiences, skills and other qualifications make you a good candidate for this position?:
“While I have never been on Student Council myself, I view this as a strength for the position. I am able to bring a unique point of view to the room, that someone who has been a part of Student Council for many years already, may not have. Along with this, I have experience leading large groups of people, and working with others, through my membership in various clubs. These include Model UN, philosophy, finance and Kids Allergy Network, among others. With this, I have learned the importance of listening to people’s opinions, and discussing disagreements.”
What is a change in the school this year that you disagreed with or would like to see remedied?:
“I think in general, the U-High dances could be altered. Whether that is a change of location, activities, food and drink, or anything else, I believe we all have been to the same event a million times and it is time to shake it up. There are certainly aspects which I enjoy, those being the loud music, watching March Madness during spring fling, or the photo booth, but I believe those are not stationary to Gordon Parks Art Hall. Making changes to the U-High dance experience is something I look to explore moving forward, just to see if feasible.”
How will you communicate the concerns of students to the administration?:
“I look to bring an apparent, up-front approach with me to the position. I will look to be frank, and realistic while addressing the needs of the students, while still holding a frame to be kind, and respectful. I believe it is important for the administration to understand the needs of the students, what people are thinking, how people feel, and to communicate those needs in a direct manner. During StudCo meetings, I look to be a voice for the senior class, and someone anyone can come to with concerns. I aim to bring honesty with open arms to the 12th grade president position.”
