What new ideas, projects or initiatives do you have?:
“I want to improve the structure and advertisement of StudCo events to the max! Firstly, I envision Spring Fling as an affair similar to Homecoming with sports games the night before the dance. I’ve heard suggestions to play music and have more activities outside of the dance floor during dances. Additionally, I hope to host cultural performances during International Day — something that has been proposed but not yet implemented. Another initiative recently discussed is recruiting student-artists to create advertisements for StudCo. I’m super excited by this idea, and I think it’s a lovely way to boost student engagement.”
What is your main goal and how do you plan realistically to achieve it?:
“I would love to see an increase in school spirit across the board. I know this goal will not be miraculously achieved through one event alone, but will require every event throughout the year to be hyped up. That way, little-by-little, students will become interested in events where they can go have fun with classmates. Through the tweaks I’ve proposed to all-school dances and International Day, I hope to boost all-school events. I will also work closely with grade-level CUs to ensure that each grade-level event is masterfully executed, creative, well-advertised, and exciting.”
What experiences, skills and other qualifications make you a good candidate for this position?:
“I truly love serving on StudCo, and I’ve gained immense experience from the three years I’ve been a grade-level Cultural Union. I’ve learned the ins and outs of event planning, and I know what it takes to efficiently, realistically, and enthusiastically host an event that students actually get excited about. I’ve helped organize over fourteen grade-level events, and have also aided in annual all-school events such as Homecoming, Spring Fling, International Day, and Labstock. Now, as a rising senior, I can confidently say that I will lead and improve each event to the best of my ability.”
What is a change in the school this year that you disagreed with or would like to see remedied?:
“This year, numerous TV screens were installed around the school. Many people, including myself, initially failed to see a real improvement the TVs made. However, I now see potential for them to advertise student concerns, including Student Council events and actions. As part of my initiative to boost school spirit through better advertisement of StudCo events, I want to add student-artist created posters to the TV screens so that students will be reminded of upcoming events.”
How will you communicate the concerns of students to the administration?:
“Above all, I want to listen to student concerns so that our community can continue to become a place where everyone feels valued. As fellow students with the privilege of working with administration, StudCo members can discuss and seek out realistic solutions. I see my position as one where I can translate student concerns into tangible action through clear communication with the adults in our community.”
