What ideas, projects or initiatives do you have for next year? What is your main goal?
Next year, I want to keep pushing for meaningful, realistic improvements to student life. For example, I am currently working with the administration on a bill to allow students to view who’s in their Schoology groups, and I expect to see the conclusion of the bill by next year. I aim to reintroduce the driver’s education program at U-High, and I have already begun discussions with the administration and faculty to learn more about what can be done before I formally propose this as a bill. To promote sustainability, I intend to launch a used school books donation system and a formal PE uniform donation system, all to help us mitigate waste and save money. Additionally, I will garner more awareness of what Student Council actually does by having more insightful and frequent communication with the student body. My main goal is to build stronger school spirit by celebrating the achievements of our clubs, sports teams, individual students, and Student Council itself.
What experiences, skills and other qualifications make you a good candidate for this position?
I’ve served on Student Council as a Cultural Union representative for one year and grade President for two, learning how to organize events, manage bills, and work with both students and administration on committees, so I understand what works and where there’s room to grow. I hope that as All-School President, I can utilize my past three years of experience to support all of the grade Student Governments and Cultural Unions to succeed. Furthermore, I’ve always made Student Council my top priority, and have a track record of following through on my promises: I designed grade merch, changed the PE uniforms, led a recycling awareness initiative, and joined committees like Food Service, Sustainability, and Clubs to advocate for student needs.
How do you kind of plan on being the voice of students while working in conjunction with faculty and admin?
For Student Council to reflect the voices of the students we represent, I’ll actively seek feedback rather than wait for it. I will also further encourage students to attend our weekly meetings, especially the ones for dance planning. Having worked on bills myself, I know I’ll be able to support our bill leaders in consistently making progress as they work with faculty and admin to turn ideas into actions. Furthermore, to improve Student Council’s communication, we will use the website, Instagram, and Schoology more frequently to promote events and share updates. Together, these efforts can help build a united, more involved U-High community.
