What ideas, projects or initiatives do you have for next year? What is your main goal?
My main goal is to make everyone feel like their voices are being heard, specifically when it comes to the school’s money. Lab’s funding system is shared by everyone; therefore, everyone should get a say in what happens with it. But I do recognize that it can get quite complicated to navigate the process of requesting budgets, especially for club leaders. If elected, one idea I have is I will make a slideshow/website that can be viewed by any club leader that walks them through the entire process. I also want to form one-on-one connections with the student body, making it easier for them to ask me questions directly about their funds. Remaining in constant communication with people results in a stronger, transparent and trustworthy Student Council.
What experiences, skills and other qualifications make you a good candidate for this position?
Being in multiple clubs and a part of two sports teams, I’ve learned about the importance of organization, commitment and building community. These experiences have helped me develop the kind of reliability and work ethic that I feel makes me a good candidate for treasurer. I am serious about what I’m doing for the school, especially when it comes to money. I’m someone who follows through, learns quickly and isn’t afraid to ask questions. I’m here to do the work to get better because, at the end of the day, being treasurer is about dedication, communication and reliability, which is something I can promise for everyone.
How do you plan on being the voice of students while working in conjunction with faculty and admin?
Staying in constant communication with the student body has the greatest effect on what I’ll do. I would serve as the liaison between the student body and the faculty and administrative staff. As an elected student leader, part of my job is to communicate effectively between students and faculty. Effective communication means all sides listen to one another with intention and with the goal of trying to understand one another to come up with solutions that benefit the greater good: the community.
