What ideas, projects or initiatives do you have for next year? What is your main goal?
My main goal for Cultural Union president next year will be to build on a legacy of amazing school events and improve, improve, improve! I will make dances more engaging, fun and efficient (in terms of coat check). In response to the uptick in clubs at U-High this year, I will host a mid-year club bazaar in the cafeteria. I will extend International Day into a Lab period to allocate more time for student and faculty performances to prevent people from just coming and going for the food. I will work with the athletics department to encourage student and faculty performances during halftime games, so more people come — our school spirit isn’t super high.
What experiences, skills and other qualifications make you a good candidate for this position?
I’m an 11th grade Cultural Union rep this year, and I’ve hosted a Boba x Slime social, a LabsterChef cooking competition, a Crumbl x Wingstop social, and a Lock-Under. I think I’ve done a good job at listening to students’ requests and planning events that students actually want to attend!
How do you plan on being the voice of students while working in conjunction with faculty and admin?
I think knowing that you can’t always please everyone is important — in my experience on StudCo this year, my friends and peers like coming up to me with these super wacky ideas, and I try to tame them a little bit so they’re actually feasible events that administration will approve and our budget will support. It’s kind of like mediating: you want to build on the creativity that all your friends and peers are passing through you while also appeasing Ms. Campos and the $600 semester budget.
