What ideas, projects or initiatives do you have for next year? What is your main goal?
If I were to be elected, my main goal would be to promote the voice of the student body. For example, I would like assemblies to better reflect the interests and priorities of the student body. I propose a form that students could fill out if they want to see a specific person or topic to focus on for an assembly. This way, assemblies would be less repetitive, more engaging and more reflective of the interests of the students themselves. Additionally, I hope to encourage discussion between the student body and Student Council through an easily accessible Google form or a recurring meeting (like a town hall but for students in our grade). This would allow students to voice concerns or opinions to the Student Council about topics they want to see focused on. Lastly, it is important for us to be as fully prepared as we can be after graduating, and even after college. I want to see an increased amount of discussion around preparation for the real world: logistical things that still need to be taught, so that we can be as comfortable as we can be after graduating.
What experiences, skills and other qualifications make you a good candidate for this position?
For the past three years, I have been on the receiving side of the actions of Student Council. My new perspective offers benefits: I know what it is like to come from the student body and have questions/suggestions about our school. Additionally, I am committed to the school and the student body, and this can be seen through all I am involved in. I am a member of the soccer team, ArtsFest board, photojournalism, yearbook and many other clubs that work to better the community. Through my experiences with these groups, I have gained leadership, organizational and collaborative skills. I care about honoring our school’s legacy and promoting interactions between all grades to foster a sense of community. If I am to be elected, I will use all these skills and values to best perform my role and do it with care because I am committed to make our school a better place.
How do you plan on being the voice of students while working in conjunction with faculty and admin?
I hope to advance communication between the student body and Student Council. Currently, I feel like there is limited communication and discourse between the two bodies, and that, even if there are implemented methods of communication, they are not publicized enough. I hope to encourage members of the student body, and the Class of 2026 specifically, to pose questions that they have to their Student Council more often so that concerns can be addressed. If discourse between the student body and Student Council were more frequent, then discourse between Student Council and faculty and admin would feel more productive and like the student body is being listened to. If the student body voiced their opinions or preferences regularly through a form or a meeting with Student Council, the rest of Student Council and myself would be able to inform the faculty and admin in regular meetings between those two bodies as well.
